Many people realize that the bad choices they make at any given time can negatively impact their lives – whether they are Federal Drug Charges in Oklahoma, pornography charges, domestic violence, or simple assault – they can all impact you in ways that you may not even realize. Truthfully, certain criminal charges can ruin your career, your life, and your opportunities.

It is important to keep this in mind as you go about your daily life, especially if you are the type of person who engages in high-risk activities. However, even small daily decisions that you don’t think will impact you can do just that.

Drug Charges – Of Any Kind

Drug charges can significantly change your life, no matter what type of charge you get. Most federal drug charges in Oklahoma are felonies, which means that you legally have to disclose them when you apply for a job. Whether your drug charge stems back to simple possession, trafficking, or manufacturing, many employers will look at you the same way. It is best to just not put yourself in that position.

Many workplaces will drug test you before you can get a job, and the companies pay for those tests themselves. If they see any sign that the drug test will come back positive, they may find another reason not to hire you. Additionally, you may face scrutiny when you are employed and have to get drug tested more frequently.

Domestic Violence Can Follow You Forever

Domestic violence is a charge that will follow you around for a long time, no matter who the victim of that domestic violence was, a spouse, a child, or a roommate. This is an extremely significant charge and it can suggest to people that you are unhinged or violent. Many careers do not allow these types of people to work within their structures, including most education jobs. At the same time, traditional employers may be hesitant to hire you at all.

That isn’t to say that you cannot come back from it – there are ways to rehabilitate your image and move on with your life. However, you need to be willing to do quite a bit of work.

Drunk Driving

Similar to a drug charge, a drunk driving charge can completely nullify you from certain jobs. If you need to drive for your careers, such as a bus driver, postal worker, truck driver, or EMS worker, you may no longer be able to work it. There are some steps that can be taken to get your job back, or you may be able to be moved into a non-driving position, but it can make things quite difficult.

If you have a speciality license, remember that your threshold for drunk driving is actually much lower than other drivers. Even if you have only had half a beer, it isn’t worth it.

Some Charges Can Get You Thrown Out Of College

If you are currently in college and working your way toward a career and you get charged with something, it could be enough to completely derail you. However, the good thing is that there is still some time for you to course-correct. If you are charged with drunk driving or you are facing a federal drug charge, you may want to talk to your Dean of Students to see if there is a pathway forward for you in a different career.
If you have a criminal charge of any kind, it is best to seek out help from a professional lawyer. He or she can help you to learn the details of your case, fight your conviction, settle out of court, or get your record expunged.
